GVEC To Begin Electric Operations and
Maintenance for the City of Gonzales on October 1
Gonzales,
Texas – September 21, 2018 – The City of Gonzales (City) and the Guadalupe
Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GVEC) would like to remind all customers of
the City that the service agreement for GVEC to assume the day-to-day electric
operations and maintenance activities will be effective as of October 1, 2018.
The impact to City customers in Gonzales and Harwood will be minimal, according
to both parties.
“As mentioned
previously, through this agreement, the City of Gonzales will maintain ownership
of the electric distribution system and related assets as well as billing and
associated administrative services for the electric department”, says Mayor
Connie Kacir. “Customers will continue to pay their bills and communicate their
outages and other maintenance needs directly with the City during normal
business hours. However, after 5:00pm daily, on weekends, and holidays,
customers should contact GVEC directly to report outages at 830-857-1124. GVEC
will not have the ability to accept customer payments at any time.”
According
to GVEC General Manager and CEO Darren Schauer, the Cooperative is ready to
serve at all hours of the day and night. “The City and GVEC have worked
together on this agreement to achieve maximum benefit for their operations and
customers. Our Cooperative Control Center is manned 24-hours per day, seven
days per week, including holidays. The process of directly phoning GVEC after
hours is meant to make it easy and convenient for the City of Gonzales
customers to get their needs met fast and efficiently.”
The new
contact number and communication process will be live for customer use on
October 1, 2018.
