Longevity Pay
Regular, full-time employees are eligible for longevity pay upon completing one year of continuous service. Longevity pay is made in a lump sum of $5.00 per month (full-time) not to exceed 25 years. The financial situation of the City is reviewed each year in October to determine if a recommendation to pay longevity pay will be made by the City Manager.
Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees are eligible for sick leave. Sick leave is earned at the rate of 3 hours per pay period.
Holidays
The City of Gonzales recognizes the following days as official paid holidays for all regular full-time employees: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Texas Independence Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Emancipation Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Come & Take It, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, and Floating Holiday.
Retirement
The City of Gonzales participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) which provides retirement benefits to eligible employees. The employer’s contribution to the system is 6% of their gross salary. The City matches the employee’s contribution 2 to 1.
Direct Deposit
Direct deposit allows employees to deposit their pay checks into one account or multiple accounts at various banks.
Credit Union
City employees are eligible for membership in the LCRA Credit Union. The credit union offers competitive interest rates on savings accounts and loans at reasonable rates, etc.
Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
Regular, full-time employees are automatically covered by the City’s health insurance plan the 1st of the month following date of hire. Dependant coverage is available, but the employee is responsible for paying the dependent premium. Dental and vision insurance are also available, but at employee’s expense.
Life Insurance
Regular, full-time employees are automatically covered by a $25,000 life insurance policy 30 days after their hire date which the City pays for. Additional life insurance is available, but at employee’s expense.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment
(AD&D) Regular, full-time employees are automatically covered by a $25,000 accidental death and dismemberment policy 30 days after their hire date which the City pays for. Additional accidental death and dismemberment is available, but at employee’s expense.
Supplemental Death Benefit
Regular, full-time employees are automatically covered by a supplemental death benefit through Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). At the employee’s death, their beneficiary shall receive a one-time payment equal to one year’s salary of the employee. Upon retirement, the supplemental death benefit would be reduced to a one-time payment of $7,500.
Tuition Reimbursement
Tuition reimbursement is offered to all regular, full-time employees who have successfully completed their initial introductory period and who wish to enroll in courses for academic study from an accredited institution. Eligible expenses for reimbursement include tuition up to a maximum of $1,000 per year.
