The City of Gonzales has Adopted the 2014 National; Electric Code. All master electricians who wish to work in the City shall register with the City will need the following:
• Valid Driver’s License
• TDLR Electrical/ Contractors License
• Certificate of Liability
And as per City of Gonzales Ordinance 3.516
Division 3. Registration Provisions
Sec. 3.516 Exceptions to Provisions
The provisions of this article shall not apply to the following:
(1) Electrical work done by a property owner in a building owned and occupied by him as his home. However, all work and service herein named or referred to shall be subject to permit, inspection and approval in accordance with the terms of all applicable provisions of this code, state law and city ordinances, rules and regulations.
(2) Electrical work done by persons engaged by any public service company, in the construction and maintenance of their public utility systems.

Sec. 3.517 Registration Required
It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in the business of installing electric wiring and electrical apparatus on or within any building in the city for use in connection with electric light, heat, or power as a master electrician, journeyman electrician or apprentice electrician without first appearing in person or by duly authorized representative and qualifying for the appropriate registration therefor. Sec. 3.518 Registration Fees
At the time of filing an application for a registration required by the provisions of this article, the applicant therefor shall pay to the city secretary a registration fee therefor as follows:
(1) Master Electrician.
(A) Original, $150.00.
(B) Renewal, $25.00.
(2) Journeyman Electrician.
(A) Original, $100.00.
(B) Renewal, $25.00.
(3) Apprentice Electrician.
(A) Original, $50.00.
(B) Renewal, $25.00.

Sec. 3.519 Insurance Required
Before any master electrician’s registration shall be approved under the provisions of this article, the applicant therefor shall file with the city secretary a certificate of insurance, conditioned that the applicant will obey all applicable provisions of this code, state law and city ordinances, rules and regulations, and will hold the city harmless from all damages that may occur by reason of any electric work done by such applicant. Division 4. Permits and Inspections
Sec. 3.536 Permit Required
No wiring, devices or equipment for the transmission, distribution or utilization of electrical energy for light, power and/or heat, shall be installed within or on any building or structure, nor shall any alteration or addition be made in such existing wiring, device or equipment without first securing a permit therefor from the city secretary. Sec. 3.537 Restrictions on Issuance
No permit required by this article shall be issued unless the applicant therefor is the holder of a registration to perform the class of work described in such permit or is authorized by this article. (1995 Code of Ordinances, Title XV, Chapter 151, Section 151.046)
Sec. 3.538 When Permit Not Required
(a) No permit shall be required under the provisions of this article for the installation of wiring, devices or equipment for telephone, telegraph, district messenger or teleautograph systems, or any signaling systems operating at 48 volts or less.
(b) No permit shall be required for the installation of electric wiring, devices or equipment installed for or by the city electric department for or by a public utility corporation operating under a franchise from the city to transmit and sell electrical energy; provided such wiring, devices or equipment are for the use of the electric department or the corporation in its operation as a public utility as provided for in its franchise.
(c) No permit shall be required to replace any electrical fixtures or appliances which require no change in the electric wiring for such fixture or appliance.
