Duties

The Street Department’s primary function is the general maintenance of city streets, drainage systems and street signs, but not limited to many other types of jobs. The Street Department also works with other crews in preparing for City events.

Street Maintenance

Street Maintenance includes some total street reconditioning, pot hole repair/patching, concrete work, such as some curbing and sidewalk repair. Most curbing and sidewalks in residential areas fall on the responsibility of the customer. The Street Department has a street sweeper that sweeps residential streets.

Drainage Systems

The drainage system is maintained by the removal of debris obstructing the flow of storm waters. Daily inspections are made for pavement management and visible obstructions.

Street Signs

The Street Department maintains and installs City street signage.

To report street sign damage call City Hall at 830-672-2815

Mowing and Brush Pickup

Mowing and brush pick up fall under Street Department line of duties. This includes the mowing of right-of-ways and drainage ditches to control overgrown weeds. Areas that are not accessible for mowing are sprayed with herbicides.

Brush and stump pickup is done by a two man crew that runs a set route each week for residential brush. Brush and stumps need to be cut into manageable sizes and left curb side for pickup.

Weed and Mosquito Spraying

Weed control is done only on City owned property such as along City Street edges and some alley ways. Mosquito spraying is done during the summer months around most of the town.
