What do you get when
you mix a first-team all-district running back, a former star drummer from the
Mighty Apache Band, a 26-year Air Force veteran, and a guitarist with licks
reminiscent of John Mayer? You get energy...lots and lots of
energy. Josh Calvin & the 183 South Band is an unlikely combination
of musicians who have grown together into a high energy, red dirt/Americana
band. Founded in 2019 by front-man Josh Calvin and drummer Johnathan
Hidalgo, 183 South is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the South
Texas music scene. To say 183 South’s music is multi-generational would
be an understatement. Come to a show and you’re likely to hear a wide
variety of genres, with covers ranging from red-dirt artists such as Koe
Wetzel, Stoney LaRue, and Parker McCollum, to blues hits by Michael Burks and
Stevie Ray Vaughn. This unique blend has also found its way into the group’s
songwriting, resulting in local hits such as Aftermath, Lonely South Texas
Night, and Shattered Dreams. Whatever your musical preference, Josh
Calvin & the 183 South Band are sure to get you on your feet and ignite
your inner rockstar.
